| Some expedite carriers show no deduction |
Studies show that some expedite carriers claim that they have no fees for certain required insurances, but the fact is they have a reduced set per mile rate. This lowered rate occurs by paying less to the owner operator and channeling those same funds towards those insurances that do in face exist. This recruiting method makes you think your saving money by not having those typical insurance expenses that other carriers do have but your getting paid less per mile to offset those expenses paid by you, you may not be able to capture the expense on your income taxes and the carrier benefits instead while paying you less per mile. You're better off obtaining as many insurances on your own and getting the higher per mile rate. At least thisway you have the tax deductions. |

| Expediters paid less per mile |
| A few expedite carriers pay a reduced rate per mile to expediting
owner operators and shift those dollars towards insurance
policies. It is recommended to lease on to a carrier that allows
you to get your own insurance policies to run your expedited
business in your cargo van or straight truck so you can capture those tax deductions yourself instead of the carrier. Some carriers may present their expedited company to have less or no insurance expenses when in fact your per mile pay is reduced and those same funds are used to pay for insurances. |
